Phytic Acid

What It Is
A naturally occurring compound found in plant seeds, grains, and legumes. In skincare, used as a gentle chelating agent, antioxidant, and mild exfoliant with brightening properties.
What It Does
Chelates (binds and removes) metal ions that can trigger oxidation and pigmentation processes. Has mild exfoliating properties and inhibits tyrosinase (melanin production enzyme), making it a gentle brightening support ingredient. Also acts as a preservative booster in cleansers.

Phytic acid is one of the few ingredients that bridges chelation, antioxidant function, gentle brightening, and preservative boosting in a single compound. Its natural-derived origin (seeds, grains) also appeals to clean beauty positioning.
Phytic acid is not a strong exfoliant or brightener on its own. At the concentrations used in cleansers, it functions more as a tone-supporting, antioxidant-chelating additive than a primary treatment ingredient.
Part of a cleansing formula — benefits are delivered during application. In serums, it supports other brightening actives.
